My tyres are loosing pressure albeit very slowly. I suppose this is the consequence of running 40 year old Steels without innertubes, then again inner tubes are not made for 175/55/15 tyres.

My wheels are straight but my tyre guy did advise that he could not guarantee they will hold the pressure. Any options guys? Don't really want to run Alloys.

you shouldn't need inner tubes on the steels. Even stock with commercial tyres dont need inner tubes. I have steels and no inner tubes no problems. Do you have the same problem on all wheels? You could buy some more 2nd hand rims or you can buy new copy stock rims. Either way you should be able to solve this without going to alloys.

BTW alloys are more prone to air leaks than steels.

I ran commercial tires with inner tubes on my stock steels at the recommendation of the tire fitter. Never had any problems.

Might be worth having the tyres removed and ensuring the surfaces are clean and smooth as possible. Sometimes just refitting can solve small leaks.
