I figure its a Twin Port with 1600 heads on (PO said it was a 1600) but I cant find much information on the AR113811 Engine, the best I got was:

AB, AR * 1300cc T/P
From http://www.vwheritage.com/vwh/VW-Exhausts/?templateID=vwh" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://www.type2.com/bartnik/enginecodes.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ? :?:

AR was originally a twinport 1300.

Afaik.

The manifold is the giveaway. If you have 'swoopy' bits on each end, which are joined to a centre section of the manifold with a little rubber boot (each side) it is a twinport. The manifold ends on a twinport split into two after the rubber boot.

You can see the rubber boots here:

If it doesn't have these:

then it is single port.

Single port is slightly more torquey, but less power.

Hiya cun,

The AR series in its original configuration was a 1300 dual port developing 52 hp SAE/ 44 hp DIN. Your engine would have rolled off the assembly line in the later half of the 1974 production year. Since that was 34 years ago, it's really difficult to tell exactly what you have right now without disassembling the engine and doing some measuring. The AR series was in production only during the 74 and 75 model years. It was the last OEM 1300 out of Germany.
