Hi All

Do you need to remove the sliding door to replace the seal?? The door itself is working fine so I'd rather not jinx it and remove the door. But can you get access to remove the old and fit the new with the door attached?

Also, are any greases better than others for greasing the tracks and rollers?

Cheers
Craig

Short answer is no you don't have to remove the door to fit the seal. However if you wish to grease the rollers properly it is a door off job, don't grease the runners grease the bearings. If you grease the runners they become full of crap and crud and only makes it worse in the long run.

If I remove the door is it likely to need some adjustments when I re-fit do you think? Or if everything working fine now and I'm just taking it off, then back on it'll be fine?

Should be fine as long as you don't unbolt any of the roller brackets. Refitting the middle runner cover after door refit can be a bit fiddly though, if the rubber seal is a it old.

Dont remove the door. I unbolt the bottom roller bracket, and rest the sliding door on an axle stand. This allows you to fit the sliding door seal in one piece and give the rollers a good clean and lube up. Refit the bracket as you removed it and it should fit again without problem.

Like Clem said, there is a good how to here:

Cheers guys will try and follow the ratwell article!

Its just my opinion, but taking off the bottom roller is much simpler in my experience, and doesn't really have the scare factor that the Ratwell article suggests. Good luck with doing it though :D

Not having much look with that ratwell article and lifting the hinge out of the track with the cover in place! Has anyone actually managed to do it like this as you just don't seem to get enough clearance with the cover there to lift and pull it away from the bus. Seen a video on YouTube with a lad managing to pull it off and put it back in less than a minute.....but that didn't help!

Taking lower hinge off helps to get new seal on, but struggling to get the old hardened one out down the edge behind sliding door.

Have you taken the too roller off? I've done mine this afternoon. I pushed the door back took the top and bottom off and moved the door out.
I also used a seal from a Schofield complete door kit which I can only imagine are all the cheap seals and the fit is perfect unlike the cab door seals.

Thanks Radish....think that's going to be my next plan of attack. I'll mark where the top and bottom brackets are before removing then hopefully it'll still all fit good after.

Did you get enough clearance then for the stretch of seal behind the sliding door? Door fit ok again after putting brackets back?

Loads of room, I pulled it out about 10" and rested on an axle stand. I only had to adjust the bottom one. Just pencil around the bracket and you should be good.

It's pretty easy to remove the sliding door if you pull the track cover off, it makes fitting the seal properly much much easier, it's only a few screws to get the cover off. Once the cover is off pull the door so that the middle hinge locates with the cutout in the sliding door track, lift the hinge out of the track, pull the door right back and rotate the door to around 45degrees to the van and the bottom roller will pull out and the top one will naturally come ou, it's easier with 2 people but I generally do it by myself

Success at last! Managed to get the rear screw off from the track cover and this allowed enough movement in the cover itself to slide that middle hinge from under it.

Now cleaned the channel the seal sits in but need to double check i'm sticking the new one in the right way. The old one was beyond any kind of recognition.

Not too easy to describe via photo, but I'm assuming the front edge of the sliding door buts up into the v-shaped seal side?

Thanks for all your help guys. Get's easier once you've done things!

Which seal did you fit and is it ok? I keep thinking of changing mine as the one I have constantly sticks out at the bottom and it has to be tucked in by hand everytime I shut the door  Was hoping it would "bed in" after a while but 4 years on and it's still doing it!

Cheers. My current one was from them, hopefully they've improved since then!
