Well.. since you folks did such a wonderful job solving my 1st set of problems.. (thanks again!) here is a new one. My sliding door falls off the tracks on the top and bottom when opened too far, and is just plain rough closing. It's easy to see why. Very rusty track. What should be done about this? Is this the part I'm looking for? http://www.cip1.ca/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=TAB-402-312" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Has anyone else dealt with a sketchy slider? What did you do about it?

Hard to see from the pic how bad the rust is, but I'd look into how far the rust has eaten the rail - If not too bad then just wirewheel the hell out of it and POR-15 it, that 'll last another few years!

If the rust is bad and has spread like cancer, a replacement rail is the only way - a pretty hard job for the not-so-skilled bodger.

Good luck!

Someone please correct me but the bottom track is only a guide for the door Dexter surely should be looking to the middle hinge the top hinge and the runner along the window also the wheel on the mid hinge and the stopping the door once its open to the max I would say look at all these points first before cutting out anything yes ? no?.

Thanks dudes. There are actual holes on the track so I'm thinking the rust has gone too far there for a simple fix. There's a Vdub guy just outta town so it looks like I'll be taking Dexter to see him soon. For now we deal with the essentials while I use the slider as little as possible for now. Thanks again. :)

^^he's right, I was a bit too eager for you to get the grinder out

Try removing the sliding door first, have a mate standing by to assist.
Check if there's grease on the tracks and check if all the bearings spin freely.
You could always degrease the tracks with some marine clean and re-grease them.
Holes (small ones) shouldn't prohibit the door from moving smoothly.
Dirt and rusty metal pieces in the track could however...
