Hi all, what the hell has happened to all the sliders for right hand drives? I've been looking for rust free for about 18 months -been stung once on ebay resulting in big confrontation; have tried all usual suspects to no avail -to be honest all this has almost killed my enthusiasm to finish my project because this damn door situation is driving me crazy. I've been into vws for 20 years: never thought I would ever feel like giving up :x

Just an idea but maybe try contacting some of those companies who import buses from South Africa/Austrailia ?

Think there's one called G'Day Kombis who sell RHD.

They might have parts?? Worth a try.

Yes, I'm thinking of running lengths of gaffer tape along the bottom edge of mine, just to put off would-be '68-'72 sliding door thieves. :lol:

Hope you can find one soon, that's not too expensive.

The way the market appears to be that some are 'predicting' that you could be looking at closer to £1k soon ... and I don't think it is scare mongering - even the trade people are having to pay higher prices for sliding doors to finish resto project for clients as they are so scarce and even then still having to do work on them.

In the olden days it was cheaper/easier to replace rather than repair. Maybe that situation is reversing?
£1k does seem mad for a slider but I can see why it's happening. Got a good slider? Get some wax in it

Wierdly the drivers-side slider on my twin-slider is the only one that has had a repair in the past AFAIK...

Thanks for all replies guys. I have already contacted all the SA and Oz connections, sometimes it feels like you lose your way, going to get the wire wheel out and strip back my own door - stuff paying £1k. What have I got to lose, let's do it!

Feel sympathy for your plight but also find it slightly sad about the bolt-on mentality in the vw scene sometimes
600 notes would pay for a good few hours with a skilled panel beater, it's not a complicated panel really and I can't see why the repairs couldn't be fabricated (not nasty botches, a proper job making panels from scratch).

Whereabouts in the country are you? There's still lots of good old fashioned bodyshops about who do that sort of work so it's got to be worth getting a quote on your current door if a replacement is that hard to find and going to be so expensive when one does turn up :?:

Wire wheel it, see what you're really up against and fix what you've got. Mendology!

I was equally dismayed to see the price of a replacement sliding door. In the end I brought some repair panels and got the angle grinder out. The job was easier than anticipated and very rewarding. Sense of achievement knowing I still have most of the original door.
