So the bus died on Thursday..died while driving along and coasted to a stop with all the lights on
Really thought id killed it this time, had nothing. Luckily a mate came and towed me back to his VW centre http://www.bbbcvw.co.uk

So removed the engine tonight expecting it to be scrap...and found

The flywheel has come off the back of the engine  and was lovingly hugging the gearbox  very strange!

Anyone else had this before? Seems very strange for some flywheel gearbox loving

You might not be as lucky as you think I'm afraid. Usually when flywheels loosen they make the dowels loose in crank (dowel holes go oval) and its new crank time. You seem to have an eight dowelled crank and flywheel there with a few dowels missing. The fact that dowels are loose is bad sign.
