Starter motor question.....

Morning!
I have a '72 bay with a 1600 engine and box to fit. Can anyone tell me if the starter motor I have for my old beetle is the same?
It's the later bell housing with the two hole mounting lugs on the top which secure the box to the chassis, if that makes any difference?

Hi Gav,
The starter motor is largely determined by the gearbox / bell-housing.
12 volt Beetle starter motors will fit van gearbox's up until 1975; after that they won't!
After '75 the shaft length, gear pinion stop and pinion position were an additional 11mm away from the mounting flange.
