Just heard the news  :( :( :( :( :

Please take a moment to read this, thanks!

" Status VW has been broken into and everything stolen. so if you get offered seals at low prices its prob been stolen. or very rare parts. The break in was at our new premises. We would be most grateful if you could put details in your club newsletter and also inform the other clubs.

A lot of the parts they took were what Barclay had bought for his 1951 at Bad Camberg and at Hessisch and are virtually unreplaceable and was keeping them all as spares. They took a very valuable speedo unit that he paid 1200 euros for and all sorts of NOS parts.

They have cleared us out almost of all kinds of seals, lenses, badges, and anything else you could name so any help would be much appreciated.

Julie & Barclay."

If you can help, please email Barclay: info AT status-vw.co.uk

On the bright side, i expect they are well insured.............

Some stuff stolen will be hard to replace tho' (as in 'value offered by insurance company' will not be a fraction of the value they could get to someone who is after NOS parts)

I see what you mean but thats profit you are talking (and sometimes its abig profit), so as long as they get back their outlay theyve got no complaint. Its not profit lost if it never sold.

Im no fan of the insurance man and definitly no fan of the thief, but this goes to show you should always get your stuff insured for what its worth.
If my bus was insured for what i paid for it i wouldnt be able to buy a scrapper in the present market.

Not quite!!!

NOS items cost many times the equivelant of just an old part - insurance companies will normally only pay on 'market value' so you will still not get the full amount you paid (remember your van insurance - is it based on valuation.....)

:D

Im sure the insurance will cover a big portion of the stock but theres a period of time where the loss is assessed and investigated and assuming the payout is fairly quick the stock has to be bought and delivered and set out.

Its that period of time with no trade that gets you, in cases like this you get little sympathy from landlords and utility companys.

I realize the cost of NOS, ive dug deep for enough off it over time.
If the parts are declared as NOS then they should get the market value for the NOS part and not just "any old part".

I realize that insurance is based on valuation, so if they have up to date stock records and havent "over valued" or under valued their stock they should be OK.

I think what im trying to get across is that if they get back what they paid for the NOS stuff they wont be out of pocket.
They wont get back what its worth to a collector but what they paid as buyers.(unless they got it insured for what they think its worth)

Agree - still **** though :(

Wouldn't like to turn up to my house and discover everything has been taken - even if everything is insured and to the correct value

Yeah i know that feeling, i had my house turned over once and then about 3 weeks later had my brand new Honda CBR600 nicked. Must admit as much as i hate paying insurance, you only need to use it once to appreciate its worth.
