I'm resigning to the fact mine has had it's day and I'm buying another good S/H one,
but as I'll still have the old one; has anyone opened one up to rebuild, what's involved?

Never actually done it but I've just read the Bentley manual and it takes 6 pages of write up and pictures and is relatively straight forward. The big no no is the requirement to set up the pre-load using a torque gauge calibrated in inch/lbs and the necessary shims required to adjust the pre-load. This assumes the earlier worm and peg steering box ie pre '73. Parts would probably be an issue nowadays. We're thinking ahead as ours is OK for now but it's 40 years old and wont last for ever and looking into the best way forward in terms of repair or replace.

there will probably be a rack-and-pinion offering available for bays eventually as the creative one is already out for splits and barndoors

 yey!

I hear Red9 are working on a kit for splittys, not sure about bays...

Took the box apart as part of the rebuild on mine there are a couple of pics on the site, personally wouldn't have attempted it on my own but have a mate in the engineering trade with all the kit for boring out and rebushing etc. We managed to get all the parts required seals bushes etc. We were gonna metal spray the shaft but ended up skimming and bushing and it's gone back together see the pics, can get info on where to source parts where required.
