A little bird has just informed me that very shortly a new steering rack conversion/kit is soon going to be available for bays, interesting eh ;-)

any good for slammed Bays ? :msn4:

This is the million dollar question!

There are racks out there for bays but none that sit above the original one.

I look forward to seeing this.

Im sorry Rikki BUT it will only be interesting if :

A) It actually fits as models on the market at the moment require a fair bit of modifying to the vehicle to fit

B) its affordable and doesnt cost a kidney

C) It actually works, as the factory original has lasted for over 40 years now

D) Fits all years and models and LHD and RHD

E) Its finished properly , I.e powdercoated, comes with Stainless fastenings and will last

F) It fits slammed buses and I do mean properly slammed NOT just midly lowered ........

If it does all the above then Yes lets see it..... With pictures and prices etc

Gadget ;)

Im with Gadget on this, its a big ask but it will sell huge qtys if its done right 8)

just think about the logistics of fitting a rack in the space thats there without cuting/compromiseing somthing.thought about this before and the only way i can come up with a workable solution is with a 90 deg box of the column driving through the hole in chassis on to a single ended rack(polo?)that then works onto the original relay lever.only prob is that it will need clearancing the front valance for the end of the rack for full lock ,also the gearing ! if you fit one across the beam then you still have to get a shaft to it some how, clearing brake pedal and servo ect.The Midland Early Bay rack works very well but wont work on super slammed busses and the hot rod rack used is costly, have seen a Bedford Rascal rack used with T25 bevel box but dont know how well that worked so will be very interesting to see if some one has found a workable solution.

This would be awesome...my mate fitted a creative rack to his bus and the steering feels great. Will have to add it to the list of the upgrade to my bus that is currently in the collecting all the parts stage...

I agree with gadget though, it needs to suit properly lowered buses.

There is simply no point in devoloping something thats '' half done'' Its needs to fully engineered and fit properly , The Valley Gas Speed Shop rack and Creative racks are a Ok soulotion, But there is a better design and it all comes down to engineering/start up costs......

WHS, the only decent system Ive seen is the RED9 one, but its expensive and the rack hangs low at the back where it could get clobbered.

yeah, love the look of the Red9 and it is supposed to make a massive difference to steering and handling...but you can't go narrow, only bummer.

Like they say in NZ..."she's a hard road finding the perfect women"

By design it is narrower, only by 40mm though, mind you on my bus the wide5 adaptors add on another 12mm, still narrower than stock though

G) Rikki actually tells us what the bloddy hell he is on about and who may be producing them!

Otherwise this thread is kinda pointless,

I thought he may spill the beans as a christmas present to the EB forum :)

Rikki if they need a good test pilot to get one on a van and tested to breaking point i can think of a few worthy vans ;)

I expect to get the answer will involve having to read volksworld magazine...

Nah...I'll just home brew it for less than £100 again

And steer clear of stainless fastenings, there aren't high tensile ;) (and I'm not even gonna mention galvanic corrosion :msn4: )

Sorry  Creative, probably have one at the Volksworld show for you all to have a good look at, can't really tell you any more.
