depends what way you want to go really.ive cut my spring plates, and im happy that there safe, but some will say that its not the way to go as its not as intended(can a worms kinda thing)if you go along this route then you could use your front shocks on the rear(nice fit on a 2 spline drop if i remember rightley) cut the plates and you havent spent a penny.

then all ya need to buy is your shocks for the front and cut of the bump stops of,adjustabal shocks or mesure and get the right size shocks(prob cheeper)

if your not going for adjustabal shocks you need to mesure the distance beetween the shock mounts with the shocks of then work out which ones you need,if you call, most places will help with this.

i use heratage for most stuff so i would prob go with them.but most places will do them

cheers dude

I'll get it through its MOT this weekend and weigh up the options

if you can help it'll prob save me enough to afford to buy the springplate not to sure i feel comfortable cutting but might be an option!

i'll drop you a pm later mate

cheers

Dave

If you use dropped spindles is that all you need to buy or do you need other gubbins to make it all work?

Where do people buy them from wagon west? Heard it's a long wait?

You must remember that any problems you have now will be carried though with the dropped spindles, as you are on a lowered beam sort this out first short dampers your bumpstop issues etc then if your happy with the ride and considering going lower go for the spindles which will not make the ride any worse, also you have a 2 spline drop what inner outer combo?

no probs dave, sorry for the mess of that last post  ,it was late and id had a few glasses of wine.it reads worse than my usuall posts  .

No worries fella I understood it well the english anyway most of the technical stuff again straight over my head and I've not touched a drop lol.

One point that I think everyone missed (sorry if I didn't see it) is that your van is quite low now, if you fit dropped spindles it will be too low.

You might not have enough adjustment in the beam to get it up high enough to run the dropped spindles. This would mean the beam would have to be modified again.

You might want to raise the front up as high as it goes & take some measurements. You will then know what you can & can't do.

Good point!

And instead of notching the springplates or fitting adjustable springplates, you could also use offset springplates like for example the ones from Red9. They come in 2", 4" and 7.5" drop if I'm correct.

Thanks for all the advise people

I have to say though i'm totally confused now having little technical knoledge and so many options!

:( :|

Some of it comes down to cost to which route you go, so for instance you can notch your spring plates (cheap) or buy some that do the same thing, which have been made to allow for clearance (expense). Either way will achieve what you want so its down to your view of the method and cost.

The things you definately need to do to the back is fit a set of front shocks and cut the bump stops down - then decide how to deal with the spring plate. Strongy will be able to help you with whatever way you decide to deal with this.

Start with the given stuff and don't let all the info overwhelm you. Its all about finding the best compromise for you. You can even plan to improve your set up over time when funds allow. At the moment you know your van isn't as good and safe as it could be, so try some of the easier, cheaper stuff and go from there, improving the ride along the way.

I think in the end people fall upon a method of lowering that they prefer in their heads once they've researched and just go for it, so read read read those threads and become familiar with whats out there and see what people's opinions are of the ride etc.

Good point Pete

But generally when adjusters are fitted you can raise it to pretty much stock. If this bus was raised 2,5" then add dropped spindles, and shocks to match, you would have a more comfortable ride due to an additional 2.5" of travel (as long as the front bump stops don't foul).

But I'm confusing things......

Strongy knows what he is doing and has offered help. One person working on the bus with you is worth 100 on a forum

Good luck again, it is a cool bus.

It won't take long to sort out & need not be expensive.

Once he has had a look all will become clear. I don't have dropped spindles & my bus rides ok.

All good advise cheers

I think i'll get Mr.Strongy to have a butchers n take it from there!

Can't afford the spindles just yet anyway!

Be good to ride in a couple vans set up differently to see for myself if it's worth all the effort?

Thanks again n watch this space

Cheers dude

I might well be wrong but I think it's lotus white with Indian red interior!

Not perfect as it's had a half respray at some point but it's not a show van it's a festival van so suits me!
