On a 1970 Bay, what's the knack to replacing the pins that hold the articulated pivotting hinges in place on the tailgate?

Tailgate is up and won't come down. I need to get the pin back through the hole in the hinges but it's taking a lot of effort to push/lever against the torsion springs that run across the top of the tailgate under the headliner.

Tried levering with a big screwdriver but the hinges won't shift enough to line up the hole and I don't want to do any damage to me or the bus.

I need to get the tailgate down but it's stuck rock solid and fully open....

Thanks

Kin great big hammer son ?????? Sorry not much help am I !

your need to pop the torsion bar out first as you will never line up the holes with the tailgate under "load"
be careful with the bars tho as they are tensioned
