I have either had a dream or seen somewhere where there is a specific year that you could open the rear tailgate from the inside. Anyone know about this and where I can get one if they exist. I have a 72 Crossover I want it in.

Some Westfalia buses have internal release rear hatch mechanisms, there's a black knob on the inside.
That could be the one. I will have a look at Westfalia. Thought it would be pretty cool to be able to open in the morning without getting out of bed.

My 70 Panel has a metal lever on the inside very low down in the middle. It’s basically hidden but my wooden panel over the door has a small cutout for it.
Might just have to look for it?
Hope that helps.
Cheers

I have had a thought on this if the lever is low down it might not work with mine as I have a Dormobile and the bed is stepped up about 5" at the back as there is storage under the bed to put the buddy seats. I might have a look and see if I can modify a door lock with a leaver that's half way up the centre of the rear hatch panel.

I’ve got one in my westy and use it when camping as I sleep with my head that end, it’s great on stuffy nights to crack open to allow a bit of air flow

When I was in Canada I saw a bracket that fitted onto the locking mech which left the tailgate open am inch or so. Great for ventilation but did need the mozzie net fitted to the inside to stop the critters getting in. 😀
