Is there anywhere other than Rackhams that sell them? What have other people used in their place?

If you find them I'm up for some as £100 is a bit much for me.

Are they mainly for soundproofing or are they used as an insulation? There must be something you can buy and cut to shape?

They are for both.

It's possible to make pretty convincing replicas using hardboard and matt black paint.

What that do the job they are intended for though?

I guess you do that and put some high density foam behind them

Useing mdf on mine ,it's not easy to burn ,matt or satin black ,should look ok

if someone has the paper template somewhere they can send me through post, i can get the cheap replicas made in whatever material we could agree on.
if you are up for it, PM me and I will send across the addy to post the templates to. will gladly pay postage.
cheers

PS: the member with the paper templates gets a free tar board when I am done. ;)

I can take the measurements and make templates if you want but I don't have the boards to draw round

thanks sam.
boards to draw around would be great, dont want to end up with the tar boards that dont fit perfectly. but if no one else got the templates, will be getting in touch.

PS: also this: http://forum.earlybay.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=57983" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Ok no worries, if no one shouts up I could perhaps make the out of hard board first to make sure they fit and is so make paper templates.

that would be ace sam. thanks!
also, whatever material we could agree on, i think i can do the tar boards can be made in a flat pack to ship cheaply ;)

Ok best thing to do is keep periodically dropping me a PM as I have a bit on at the minuet and I will fit it in around stuff

I looked at a few options and saw someone on the forum used this

http://www.soundservice.co.uk/fire_retardant_acoustic_foam.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

so ordered and it works well :) . A lot better than the original tar boards and I prefer the look to the rackams lattice type boards. The van is in the garage at the moment getting a webasto installed but will take some pics when it's back next week.

Might also be worth doubling up with someone as from memory I think the amount was enough for two engine bays but the postage was a bit steep.

Cheers

What one did you buy exactly? What thickness?

I bought the 12 mm thick one with self adhesive backing made it easy to apply. Fitted easily. You might be able to get the 25mm under the metal clips as it squashes down easily but I played safe.
