Hi Ant,

I can see why you had clearance issues!, cool!-nice and low bus,.(is that a 2 spline drop)? yeah I just can't see the Python being any benefit in the clearance stakes?? but thats all acedemic anyway because I'm not going to pay that much for a new exhaust.

My bus goes absolutely wicked anyway- all stock, SP,1600 65-73 on the way back from Nuneaton last Wed! I think about 23mpg.

i've had loads of aircooled exhausts in the past and to honest never thought i'd go back to stock.... but after going lower at the back it seems the best option.

oh its on adjustable springplates.... the drop in the pic is the equivalent of a 2 spliner

I have gone for the standard exhaust but with a stainless one off tail pipe. It sounds and looks fine.

It is going to outlast the stock box.

I have had loads of aftermarket exhausts and this is so much easier...but it is on a stock motor.

The engine bar is only 3" off the floor but the exhaust is higher.

Keep it simple stupid!

Hi
That is low equivalent to a 2 spline drop, just a thought could you get an extension fabricated to lift the exhaust up that fits between the header and exhaust,I have lowered mine 2 outer but have no engine and box in at the moment and had plans on fitting this type of exhaust, didn't realise the mondo sat that low

Go with an A1 Sidewinder Exhaust,

Here is the price list if you buy it direct from A1, much less expensive than the CSP unit, I contacted Manuel Vasquez a few month ago:

Sujet : A1 Sidewinder, for a Bay-Window bus

Hello Manuel,

I'm from France, and before Serrano went out of businees, I saw that he was selling a bay-window version of your very nice sidewinder exaust setup but there was just two words "bay-window" in is ad, no pics to have an idea of this bay window sidewinder version
.
Now he's out of business, I'd like to know if you can sell your exausts directly, and if you are accepting international shipping by USPS?

I'd be interested by a sidewinder setup for my 1971 bus, 1"5/8, do you have some pics of this setup? does it have good ground clearance? Can you make it full of stainless steel (header and muffler)? Any idea of price for this exhaust?

Thanks for all!

Bye viNce

We can sell direct to you. We make a 1 5/8 sidewinder that is flanged at the J pipes and is designed to bolt up to the aftermarket 1 1/2'' flanged heater boxes, or our 1 5/8 big tube heater boxes, or a flanged J pipe set that takes place of the heater boxes. This style of header we only make in mild steel or we can 'custom' build it in stainless for an extra 300.00.

1 5/8'' 'flanged' sidewinder raw 249.00
ceramic coating on header (extra) 49.00

1 1/2 flanged heater boxes 119.00 each
ceramic coat heater boxes 35.00 each

Custom 'big tube' 1 5/8'' heater boxes each 219.00
ceramic coat heater boxes 35.00 each

Flanged J pipe (set) 50.00
ceramic coat J pipe set 25.00 pair

Bay window bus muffler
mild steel inlet and outlet pipes, polished stainless muffler 188.00
ceramic coat muffler 49.00

Bay window bus muffler - all stainless steel (raw unfinished)
with polished muffler 259.00

Bay window bus muffler all stainless steel all polished 289.00

'As you can see there are a few different combinations. Let me know if you have any questions
Thanks

I looked into A1 and they look like a very nice exhaust but with shipping and Ex dutys wasn't sure if it would be cost effective? VW speedshop sell a sidewinder style system for £425 but does not fit an EB without modification to the engine bar. I went for a Turbo Thomas system in the end and is being made as we speak. I will let you know how i get on with it! :?

those A1 exhausts are beautiful vince, I have an A1 muffler to go on mine, but i wont be going super low so it should be ok.
