Hi,

I think this is my first post, but I'm following this forum for a while now. The reason I add my project is because I pretty sure I will learn a lot here from you guys.
In Belgium we have also a forum, but it's not specific for volkswagen bays.

Since december '12 I have a T2ab build in 1972. When I bought it, it had French numberplates, so I guess I drove there a lot.
This is how the car rolled from the line in 1972 :

This job makes me nuts ! I'll be happy when its done !

Hope you enjoyed it for now.

Thanks

Tim

Great work 8)
Always jealous seeing someone tackle replacing the whole of the front like that (nice garage too) :D

Hi all,

I'm busy trying to get the inner- and outersills out. Not a nice job, but it will work.
I have a few questions about that. I bought these, can someone verify if these are the correct ones ?

This is a car with the steering on the left side ;-)
On the left side;

http://www.paruzzi.com/webstore/?zoektrefwoord=20853&group=8&subgroup=09&" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

On the right, sliding door;

http://www.paruzzi.com/webstore/?zoektrefwoord=20787&group=8&subgroup=09&" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (this part has the rail to guide te sliding door)

I found this image on the internet, but I can't see the rail in here :?:

Does anyone has some detailed pictures how do i need to weld them all toghether?

Tim

It looks from that picture that it is a possible RHD picture so it doesn't have the runner on the middle sill.

I actually in the end found the whole process relatively easy. Took a while though!

I used this website as a guide http://www.specialpatrolgroup.co.uk/spooky/ One thing that I did which you haven't linked is the middle sill for the opposite slide door (so in total 3 sills each side, inner, middle and an outer).

I would recommened checking with your supplier that they aren't Klokkenhol stuff as the outer sills I got we awful. I ended up with Schofields outer sills and I was happy with those.

Also, I didn't follow the bit in the above link about taking out the upper slide runner that is attached to the middle sill (slide door side), as factory, but doesn't get supplied with the repo middle sills. I cut up along it, (leaving the track there), then welded the new panel where I'd cut and grinded it right down to be smooth so the roller doesn't get caught. I also cut slits along the top (the floor part), just behind the middle sill and dropped weld down the back and then fill in the hole to give it support from behind also.

I did take loads of pictures (link in my signature), but that site I linked should be more than enough help.

So,

I've got the old sills out, and I'm busy repairing the jacking points etc.
When that's done, I can weld in the inner sill.

To see if it fits, I already tried it...
Can anyone tell me what I can use as reference? Once welded...its almost impossible to unable the welding.
( Can I use the floor? Should I use the holes in the sills to fit it in the right position?)
Here some pictures ;

Sealed the welds

What did you use to seal the welds?

I have also sealed the gap between the battery-trays and the rear lower-quarter and I used POR15 patch, which seals hard, I presume yours is a soft compound?

Hi!

I used Mahotec (http://www.rustbuster.nl/Quickshop/?261,a00020250z-mahotec-vast-sealer-lasnadenkit-zwart" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ).
They say it stays flexible, so it is able to shrink or expand when tempature rises in the engine compartment.
You can paint on it also. Its a good product to work with, fair price also. (only used a half a tube for the whole engine-compartment.)

bye
