Hey Gang,

Forgive my ignorance but does a 70 Deluxe have a removable rear valance?

I'm trying to source tinware, specifically the piece right behind fanhousing/above the gearbox (been told this is BAY only), and the piece above the engine. However I have been told by a couple of people that if it has a removable rear valance then this piece is the same as a Beetles and therefore readily available.

Can anyone confirm?

Cheers

Yep rear valance should be removable only became a welded in part in 1972 or was it 73.

Do you have 4 bolts behind the bumper they are the key also look for bolts/screws in the engine bay around the edge of the panel.

The piece that goes above the gearbox is '68 - '70 bay only for singleport engines, and '71 bay only for TP engines. You can cut the SP type to fit the doghouse cooling exhaust. The bug piece has lower 'shoulders' (the outer edges) and thus leaves about an inch gap at the top each side. There was (is?) a conversion piece you could buy to weld onto a bug piece to convert it to fitting a bus...

The piece at the other end (pulley end) of the engine is the same as beetles, assuming you get the one that matches your carb preheat and the small piece of tinware behind the pulley.

67 Bay was knocking the shoulder piece out at a very reasonable rate to convert bug front tin to bay, not sure if he still has any knocking about....
