Afternoon
300 mile round trip to Plymouth this weekend ran like a dream :D 5 mile commute and it eats itself
.
Van managed to twist its fan belt this morning  Ran like a bag of nails and got very warm..

Fitted new belt lunch time question is... it seems to come out of the bottom pully at an angle. Its sat right just look's out of line.

I've got quite a bit of end float.Snyone else had silmilar? Looks like its going to through again at the mo

Quite a bit of endfloat is not good dood :( Are the top and bottom pulley wheels aligned with each other? as these being out of alignment will have serious effects on your engine. The top pulley sounds as tho it may need a few more shims? how tight is the belt? you shouldnt be able to take it off without removing the top pulley nut 8)

How much end float do you have?

is it still possible to shim it out? or is it beyond that?

when you pull on the bottom pulley is the angle corrected?

when its twisted has it buckled the pulley?

remove the belt and spin both and check for true....

Got quite a bit of end float  One mate thinks its sh*ged, another (an aircooled mechanic) has seen worse. Tried shimming the float and it wouldn't turn so guess its last legs!

Pulleys aren't aligned, top one is far further into the engine than bottom.

Think bottom is buckled slightly.

Is there shims behind bottom pulley? (could take a few out)Or do i shim behind the pulley up top?

New belts correct deflection just off line.

Phil

anychance of a couple of pics fella, starting to sound like your dynamo/alternators shifted if its that noticeable....or you really have got a lot of endfloat in which case I'm amazed its ran this long plus as the pulleys now warped you are deffinately gonna tear up a new belt and possibly further damage

Will take some pics tomorrow! Think somthing could have shifted.

Don't think the end floats that bad to throw the belt out. Haven't had any knocks or performance issues. (got to give it a fair tug to get a knock noise, rocks the bus on the brakes)
Pulley is probably bent though but mates bringing one to try.

shim the top back one out drop a new belt on and run it as is till you get saving for a build. my beetle engine seized four times till it finally gave up the goast. youve got miles left in it.

Sorted :D Hopefully

Think the trip to Plymouth and back had rattled it a bit, undid the strap on the Generator and gave the back a tug and it seems to have lined up :D

Pulleys are a bit buggered so new ones arriving soon :D
