......so you have seen them after a years use...after 10k etc :?:

Have YOU? ;)

umm no :? .....so far only 1 person has and vintagespeed have given a refund (twice) due to the poor product.

Most people seem to have seen them...touched them...or only just fitted them.......but the chinese sh*te ones look 'good' when you fit them....sound good when you run them....and are dust within the year....

....obviously you've fitted many of them and have seen them after 1000s of miles and think they're just..... ;)

No I have not fitted many nor seen them after 1000's of miles (but then I never said I had).

So far, as I see it, you came on here & asked questions to which you seem to have had many positive answers, from people who are happy with their purchase, but you have had a PM from someone who has a rusty one (twice) & are happy to believe it & accept it as the norm.

I purchased one directly from the factory in Taiwan (not China - anyone who has ever been to Taiwan will tell you the Taiwan ROC is a million miles in every way from China). I was fortunate enough to collect it in person & was happy with the setup & manufacturing processes I saw. (believe me, I have seen quite a lot of Asian manufacturing).

I am not saying they are perfect, nor are they without fault, but so far you do not seem to have anything to substantiate your claim of rust.

I have no connection with anyone associated with Vintage Speed, their agents or distributors, I am a consumer as many are on here, but feel this thread like many on forums these days, has the ability to criticise a product without having the necessary evidence to back up the claims.

This is not some attempt to say "put up or shut up" (although pictures would be nice :) ), but I think we need to take a balanced view here, everyone likes to feel good about a purchase, especially one that costs a lot of money, but criticism without a backup becomes hollow very quickly............................

Happy to discuss further over a beer or 2

with the amount of stuff vintage speed shift in the US and the feedback they have on the samba they are definitely not a fly-by-night outfit. I dont think ive seen one item yet they produce that isnt quality. they are famous for the 356 style roofracks. I had a fiddle with their gear sticks at Volksworld and even the stock style were very very well built.

the bug i saw was a daily and had about 8K on it. No rust or even tarnish on it yet.

This thread has been an interesting read, its good to know that a "premium priced" product actually is, in most cases, top quality.

Perhaps there is a particular reason why one individual has corrosion issues. Location, manner of use.. maybe best not to discuss! Pics are certainly helpful evidence :)

Fitted mine just prior to the VolksWorld show. Great bit of kit.
Standard of welding and general build quality is second to none.
I'll be surprised to see a stainless exhaust turn to dust in a year.

So, with an intentional revival of a thread almost a year old, I'd be interested to hear reviews from those who were fitting these back then now that they've had some time to gain experience with them....

I fitted mine 2 weeks ago. The quality of the welding is exceptional, the overall feel and quality of the product are really good. Delivery was good the exhaust was packed up really well also.

Having fitted it the only problem I found was the pipe going from the head to the exhuast where the 2 flange's meet the metal didnt seem very strong. So When I bolted it all together with the gasket in place and tightened everything up there was a leak. You could see when it had been tightened up it had bent the metal at the 2 points where the bolts are. This was a bit dissapointing but was soon sorted with some exhaust sealant from Halfrauds. Other than that is was good and fitted well. Sound nice too.

Are you running heat exchangers? If yes how difficult was it to get the air pipes to link up? I ask because the flange on the pipe from the head looks like it might be even more obstructive than a conventional 4 into one system.

Yes running heat exchangers. The problem I did find was that the diameter of the pipe on the heat exchanger seemed a lot smaller than the diameter of the pipe on the exhaust. The fresh air pipes fitted fine. The last slight problem I had was the left hand (as you look at the engine) pipe that goes from the exhaust to the head was very close to the tinware. So much so that the tinware seal on the rear valance wouldn't fit. Had to cut a small amount off the lip of the tinware. It fits fine now. This could well be due to after market tinware.

I am just about to fit one , only option left to me after purchasing an alternate type (merged ceramic coated header and a hand built hide away stainless work of art .) as the wife didn't like it! Most peps I know rate the vintage speed stuff.

As I've said, I am very pleased with mine, everything lined up perfectly, the welding was fantastic.
It also sounds lovely!
My only issue was that the rear valance needed 'tweaking' to clear it. It didn't matter too much to me as I just bent it back with some mole grips, but it might have been a pain if my bus was shiny.

I asked them to build me one which was low clearance but would also not foul my overriders.
They built one to spec, and I fitted it about 9 months ago. I had no problems with fit, save a bit of a struggle with one of the heat exchangers (which is a bit bent :))
Looks, sound and quality have all been excellent, very happy with mine :D

hey guys

can i ask, i have a empi single quiet pack (with small hole) and was going to change to a vintagespeed.

Now, not to sound like a co?k here but i liked the sound (loudness) of the quiet pack, and was wondering if the
vintagespeed sound sporty (for want of a better expression    )

They are for the preheat. Basically if you run stock single carb yes you will, if you are running twin carbs no you won't. :D

Potty
Fitted one to our new bus and it sounds great even on a 1600 with twin carbs.
I would say it sounds sporty and has a nicer sound than any quiet pack I've ever fitted/heard
