I am after a crossover engine lid a straight rust free one ideally, if anyone has one? If not il get ringing round some if the parts suppliers in camper ans bus in Jan. Thanks all!

you'll need to stipulate early or late crossover (if your as anal as most of us on here anyway, both will fit)

if someone can post a pic showing what is early and late xover engine lids i may be able to help as I have one or two spares.

the early has the shorter "brow" where as the later has the late style full width "brow", both look identical to the uninitiated but are plainly obvious side by side

Just knocked this together to show you the difference...

...top one is early crossover ('72 to '72.5) bottom is late crossover ('72.5 to '75)

I have the top one for sale, not perfect though.

:)

Thanks all for your replies. Mines a December 1970 according to ny birth certificate and the shorter brow early crossover lid matches up with mine. Could I have some pics and prices junkyard_dog and moler? Thanks all againfor help with showing the different types.

December '70 makes it a 1971 model year, so neither of these are right, you need the taller lid to go with the removable rear valance??

EDIT...just looked at your project thread, you say December '71 on there, and the pictures show a fixed valance??

so you want the top pic the short brow version ideally (anal 'O' mometer dependant, so which ways yours swinging)

Anal is my middle name! I put the tyre make next to the tyre valve when I fit my tyres. Think the shorter one looks tidyier too!

Thanks lee that is just what I need but its £65 and has a big dent in it.

I sent vw relics a message and he replied with an arsey message. Must not want the business. Your right about the big price tag seams to be a big trend with bay parts, there isn't many bargains to be had anymore seen some nice ones but £100+ postage. I'm a margin hunter myself as my wallet is not big enough to support my life and hobbies.
