Evening all!

I've recently bought an original Westfalia Awning, the one that looks like a circus tent, orange, blue roof, red white and blue door with an external frame.

Sorry I haven't got a picture yet but I'll try and get one this week.

Does anyone know when these were made as I can't find any info. Some say 60's but most say early 70's. finding info on these on the net has proved to be impossible.

Finally, does anyone know whether the poles should be stuck in the ground? They appear to just balance?? With no guy ropes or connecting poles at the bottom to hold the four corner bottoms together I can't see how it can be very sturdy.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Mike

They were made for the vans from late 60's onwards. The frame legs just sit on the ground, you peg the awning to the ground and there should be a separate guide rope from each corner of the frame to the ground.

Cheers dude. Looks like I've got some guy ropes to find.

I think it's you that inspired us to buy one as you've just done the Corsica trip haven't you Clem? We saw it in C&B.

We are planning a trip down to Croatia next year. Any tips for travelling the long distance.....with three children!

Nice one

Mike

The guide ropes are little more than regular twine really, but you do need 6 not 4 as 2 hold up the zip door into a canopy when open. :)

My daughter is just really good on long trips, put the table up and she reads, draws/colours and now uses the iPad on the go. We've got about 3000 miles ahead of us this month, so I hope she continues as happily

The date of your tent /awning may be stamped on the fabric just to the left of the entrance (from inside) near the floor. I couldn't find anything on mine, but I've learned many have a date stamp here.

Sounds intersting, where are you going Clem?

Down through France, left to Lake Geneva/Leman, then down to Italy - Milan, then Lake Garda and a visit to Venice. :)
Eurotunnel booked for next Friday and I still dont have an MOT as things stand

Sounds like a great trip, enjoy!

Tell us how it went went when you get back.

The awning went up a treat by the way. Easy to put up and takes minutes to go down. I thought the Khyam was easy but I'm not sure it will get much use now.

Cheers

Cheers :D

Still no MOT .... :?

I'd recommend a treatment of waterproofing for the awning roof, they tend to sag and hold the water a bit ;)
