I'm part way through fitting/finding a full westy in my 68 microbus.

now i want to fit a sink/fridge unit in its usual place but i don't want to cut massive holes in the vans floor for the drainage but i still want to be able to use the sink.

how can i get round this,i was thinking of figuring a way of having another container for drain water that i can remove and discard elsewhere.is this possible?
i wasn't planning on using the fridge as a fridge i was going to take that inner bit out and make it a storage cupboard for thinks like utensils and the like.

can anyone offer me some advice?
thanks
matt

You'll lose a lot of space storing waste water inside. You could just use a bowl and chuck the waste water out, like in a standard 1969 interior?
I'd bite the bullet and cut a small hole.

Years ago, I fitted a westy sink in a bus I had and put a bucket where the fridge internals were meant to be (it was all missing) and had a drain pipe into it. After a long weekends camping I was just about to drive away when I remembered the bucket - brim full of manky filthy water. Crap idea!

when you say in a standard 69 interior do u mean they had no sink at all,you just used a bowl and emptied the water out by chucking it out the van?

if i do bite the bullet how big a hole will i need?
I've seen standard westys with a massive oval shaped hole in it?! didn't really wanna do that.

69 Westys have a fitted sink but it's a pull out stainless bowl so it has no drain you just take it out and chuck the water away.

You just need a hole as big as the drain pipe, so about a 10p sized hole really.

Ah I see.that sounds like my perfect solution.especially with my bus being a 68.
I'm gonna hazard a guess that 69 sink units are like rocking horse poop tho.:/

Hmmm that's not too bad I suppose.i could look at that.
What's the large pipe I've seen on other units?

All early Westy sinks are pretty hard to find now. Budget a good £500 for a '69 ....

The holes are a bit wider to allow easier fitting and also for the ice tray drain tube. From 70 onwards they had the stainless sink fitted with a larger bore drain pipe with the u-bend fitted which made things bigger.

I thought that might be the case.

I think what I might do is see what I can pick up and what size hole I'd need after that.like I said I don't plan on using the fridge as a fridge so Il have a play about.
Need to find a unit 1st.lol

Cheers for all your advice dude.been very helpful.
