Westy sink waste exit hole

Nearly at the stage of fitting all the furniture back in my Westy and wondered what people do to cover the hole where the waste pipe/ ice tray hoses exit the vehicle.

Is it best to cover with a square piece of rubber and cut a cross in it for the pipes to come through? If so is it just self tapped to the underside?

It was a bit of rubber from the factory, riveted in place.
