at the stage where my bus is about 2 go into the paint shop and i just cant decide on a colour, any ideas? my heads wrecked, i think about it all the time even when im sleeping, infact its taking over my life.hhhhheellllllllllllllppp  thanks

After much soul searching over such a subject myself.Im gonna go for "satin black "myself.Ease of care more than anything  .Though with "earlys" the problem isnt helped by the fact that they look pukka in OG colours and shades. But in the end I think the best way is to decide what suits you ! As you are the one who's going to be spending your time in it

Satin black & ease of car don't come in the same sentance. The dirt will get ground in & can't be polished out.

The best finish is high gloss, with plenty of wax. Use a nice off white, beigh or light grey even light blue. The wax stops the dirt & makes it easy to wash.

OG colours help keep the value up, lookthrough old mags & do a google search for vans to help decide. A non metallic straight colour is easier & a bit cheaper to do.

I think that Chianti Red is the best!
Savanna Beige is nice and Bahama Blue.

I saw an Audi TT that was a bluey grey colour. That would be different.

Straight colour of your choice.....

WHS the waxing will keep the dirt down and make care easier....

I spent a long time hunting the colour I wanted, then stumbled upon it and got the sprayer to match it ...non VW but then its what I want :p

This ones a keeper so I'm not too bothered about the value....

thanks every1 4 getting back 2 me. its so hard i seem 2 change my mind all the time, im thinking an off white or light biege, but it'll prob be blue or summit 2 morro. is there any sights where i can find og colours and codes? thanks

check out http://www.thesamba.com for all VW paint codes and years.

it really is the best site for all the archive and technical stuff.

choosing a colour for a bus can be a bit of a nightmare. The same colour can look completely different on a split to what it does on a bay for instance, so you might love a colour you've seen on a split but on a bay it just doesn't look right......

from previous experience unless your side panels are super straight then I would be very careful about using dark colours as they will show up every dink going.

lighter colours are easier to keep clean as well.

and then of course you need to decide whether you do the whole van in one colour, or go up to the swage line and have two colours.....decisions, decisions.

but one thing I've always done is stick with genuine VW colours. If it was good enough for VW it's good enough for me...

good luck and let us know how you get on!

Mine is going satin black. Had words with our paint suppier at work and he has sourced me some light commercial paint. It's durable, thick, a direct product so no need to prime. And to make a satin or matt finish you add a matting agent, so if you need to do a blow in for accident damage you need to get the mix spot on or it won't match, this paint I'l be using comes in gloss levels off the shelf.

Gloss black would be a nightmare and needs massive amounts of prep work as it shows every ripple and imperfection. You'd be looking at least £300 per panel for the prep alone for a proper job (not half the stuff you see at shows thats shiney but goes up and down like a ploughed field)

i agree but im bias as im chianti red and love it.

that is a tough one, I love matt black and a deep red inside, but then that is abit hot rod but does look cool, I guess it all depends on what style you are after

but im a sexy freak so i think its ok :D whats wrong with french brothel chic my whole house is done up like that
