Just wandering what type of jack others are lugging around with them.... I don't really fancy carrying around my trolley jack in the limited space available..... so what do others use, and what size?

Was thinking of either a 2t trolley jack or bottle jack..... which packs up smallest, where do you hide it (mine is a full Devon interior).....what lift is require?

Any advise appreciated.

I have a bottle jack from a Mercedes Sprinter - new off eBay for a really good price (sorry can't remember exactly but about a tenner).

It's small enough to fit under the seat but tall enough to reach the axle.

Oh - also has a good saddle so less likely to slip when you're under it.

I take a trolley jack and axle stands everywhere, Come in handy for the odd road side clutch of wheel change.

I have a bottle jack too, robbed it from a Land Rover Defender at work before it went to scrap. It has a wind down collar on the shaft to which is as good as an axle stand.

Standard jack for me, except it's in the garage and not in the bus! Must put it in!

i have the standard JILL,got it from heritage i think.

sharky...

:sick0019:

Ok, so assuming I go for a standard issue jack (around £30 from initial search) where do you store / carry one?

Also if I went for the bottle jack, do these fit behind seat (walk through '71 )

Thanks 4 replies...

The standard jack straps under the passenger seat bottle jack would probably also fit under there.

You can get quite a good little trolley jack in a case with wheels chocks from sealey I think?? It's about £30-40 and doesn't take up too much room. Keeps it clean in the storage area.

mostly go in convoy so i got a wheel and my bud got the jack, or thats what he tells me!!!!

ever thought of a rack for you extra storage needs.

jth

.... I've just bought a rack actually, but only a small 2 bar to go in front of the Devon pop top. Just with my wife and two young children and everything that comes with them think I probably need a trailer!!.....

thanks for advise.... I didn't even think of hiding a jack under the passenger seat.....

Sounds like you might like to download and print yourself one of these http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/type2.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

.... oh no, what have you done, got things I need to do this evening.... what a great link to some fantastic old literature!!...... now where else was the jack hidden!!!!

I like bottle jack's too, but you'd be surprised just how low at the back even a standard height camper with a flatty is.
3 vans, 4 jacks, none would go under anything apart from the cargo floor - had to lift the van to get it high enough. Then it wouldn't jack high enough to get the wheel on so had to go scavenging about for something to build it up. We nearly missed the ferry.

I had exactly the same problem with my old 1938 Citroen.

I had previously checked the bottle jack fitted under the car but when I got a flat tyre it no longer fitted - it was at this point I first realised I had become a fully fledged member of the queens home plonkers.
