was on my '71 dormy when i bought it 5 or so years ago.. it's very retro, uber cool - but never seen another one... is it a dormy extra, or a period accesory, or what?

From down here it looks like a modified version of the ones fitted to Australian Holden and Ford wagons. I've got one in pieces in the shed. I was never game enough to start drilling the holes to fit it. Too many chances to get it wrong for my skills.
Either that or someone raided the hearse factory.
