I have two 40 (gram??) balance weights on one wheel that are opposite each other (well, 12 o'clock and 5 o'clock), one on the inside rim and the other on the outside rim. Is there any reason I shouldn't remove these two weights? Can they be removed without deflating the tyre?

Do they make much of a difference on vehicles that rarely go over 60mph?

they can be taken of with out letting the tyre down.

why not get the wheels re balanced and get the fitter to use sticky weights and put them at the back of the wheel,

thats how i done mine to make it look tidy,

i'd say get get them balanced just to make sure all is smooooth

Top advice dood! :D

Do this and you will have happy balanced clean front facing wheels  8)

Cheers guys, weights removed. It was the spare wheel anyway.

I went to a HiQ tyre shop and was told it would be £20 for four wheels to be rebalanced - I was hoping for £10  As I may get a full set of new tyres in the next few months I didn't want to pay if it was going to need doing again.

The reason for asking this is I have just resprayed my wheels - and I am very pleased with the look, except for the overspray on the tyres!?

Try it without weights first. Dynamic balance wasnt around when the splits were designed and they ran with 14 inch wheels, its probably true for the early bays too. If the wheels run true and the fitting is sound it should be ok as it comes, if you can feel something you can static balance yourself and hide the weights. If you run small wheels, wide tyres, high speeds, you probably will need to dynamic balance. I took all the weights off the split to smarten up the wheels (took photos both sides and marked the tyres first though) and have never refitted.
