the green dash light goes out, I take it thats normal?? i.e. it only shows when side lights are on?.

Dunno, mines the same, but mine has had a flick on/off switch mounted into the dash, as my stalk doesn't work properly......though it was cos my wiring had been fiddled with? Maybe not!

Alistair

Mines the same as Alistairs, switch on the dash as stalk not working.
I just thought it was one of those things on the list to sort... Maybe not.

Tom

Mine does that too on dip but there's a blue light that comes on for main beam - switched by the stalk.

Yes, the green light is sidelights only.

Blue is for full beam. There is no indication light on for dipped beam. Apart from possibly having the dash lights on.

Glad about this thread I thought I had a fault in the wiring.Mines green with side lights only.

on my 71 when i have the parking [marker] lights on the green light lights up and when i pull the switch for the headlights to come on the green light stays on :? the guy that ''fixed'' my dash wiring says thats how it is supposed to be? i dont remember that green light being on when the headlights were on on the other early bays that i have had. he was using a bently manual while hooking the wiring up.

Hiya Tub,

The guy who "fixed" (good use of quotation marks, by the way) your dash wiring screwed up. The green light should only be on when the parking lamps are lit and the headlights are not. Once the headlights come on the green dash light goes out.

Lucky you guys :D - I don't get a green light on when I switch any lights on - just blue for main beam - maybe the idiot light bulb has blown ?
Anyone know where to get replacement bulbs ?
Also - my red Brake warning light has never lit up - do yours ??

I get neither. Have never seen my green nor my blue light work, and I don't have a brake warning light (do I?) on my '72!!

So also interested if someone can point me in the direction of replacement bulbs!?

Speak to Peter Good at Volksgoods, I collected a set of dash bulbs from him at Vanfest, nice guy.

I haven't fitted them yet, a job for the winter.

thats what i thought. he did get the brake warning light to work. does anyone have a slight glow of the generator light while driving at night? I do not notice it in the daylight but at night with the lights on and i step on the brake pedal there is a very slight glow of the generator light. I think i read it in the Muir book that this is common and you have to learn to live with it?

deffinately not a "learn to live with it" moment....

its a sign of a charging/battery issue, your brake lights draw a bit more current as your no doubt aware, whats it like without the radio or any other extraneous electrics running at night, is there the slightest glow at any other time or merely on application of the brakes, what reg and genny you running and finally how olds the battery/rating?

same with or without the radio on. radio is a am/fm cd player with no extra amp. there is just a slight glow [very dim] with the headlights on only when i step on the brakes.the taillight buckets are new repro units. the generator and voltage regulator are about 6 months old. i use a yellow top optima deep cycle battery that is about 3 years old. the battery is from my motorhome bus as the 71 didnt have a battery when i bought it last year so i was going to just use it temporarily but that has turned into a year  it was used to run lights and a dvd player in the camper. i will buy a new regular battery for the bus and see if that might have been the problem. deep cycle needs to go back into the motorhome anyway. this bus had been sitting for approx. 10 years when i bought it last year

.. my bus is the same .. green only on side lights .. nothing on main beam ..

and I also can knock a job off the list!

I did take it off for a peak but when realised it wasn't just a bulb, put it back quickly!

The bulbs are quite standard and can be bought from Halfrauds if struggling ..

well i changed the small silver relay on the right side of the fuse box and now the green light only comes on when i turn the lights on to parking lights and now the hi/lo lights switch on and off as they are supposed to and the slight glow from the generator light is non existent now. must have been the relay as that is all i changed

I've got hardly any dashboard lights (no green, blue and the only red light is the oil pressure) think i need some bulbs!
What type are the bulbs?
