Which Brake Fluid

I am going to bleed the brakes this weekend, is there any particular specification of brake fluid I should be using on my 1971 US bus (DOT 4?, any particular brand?) As I have never done this myself before, how much should I get to flush it through, is 1l enough?

DOT 4 is ok, 1 litre should be fine unless you have new brake lines then you may need two,

Thanks. Is all dot4 synthetic oil, just wondering if there is differences in specifications?

I think that dot 4 is just the latest spec for brake fluid, it used to be something else. Unless you are driving something with a zillion horsepower then regular brake fluid is great just so long as it says dot 4 . If you don't know how old the fluid is, then it's a good idea to replace every few years anyway, but try and make sure that you completely pump it all out. As said before one litre will just do it, I'd get two litres and be on the safe side and use a brake bleeder like gunson. If you got loads there it's better than running out half way through a job. If you don't open the second one you can always take it back and get a refund, I hate when you're half way through something and you got to stop and get more consumables :evil: I can remember having about four or five part bottles of brake fluid at one time because every time you worked on the brakes you knew something was gonna go Pete Tong :lol:

Just brought 2 liters of this brake fluid as it seems a good price and good brand
