Who to send a solex carb too for re building?

Hi can anyone recommend somewhere that i can either take my carb too or send too to have it re-built its leaking petrol at the moment and i'm guessing it needs new gaskets etc... (tell me if im wrong!)

p.s im in ipswich, suffolk if anyone can recommend somewhere local so i can get it back quicker hopefully!

Have you thought about doing it yourself using one of the rebuild kits available from most of the parts suppliers , it's quite straight forward, will save you some money and a sense of job satisfaction .

rebuild kit is under 20 quid and takes about half an hour, mate just a case of a few screw and replace old for new.
if you pay someone there will be an hor labour on the top which is getting near a repro carb maoney.
man if i was at home id do it for a few beers but im not unfortunatly.

i bet theres somebody on hear whos local to you thats up for a free beer or cuppa?

Honestly mate,if you have got the ability to un screw something,put the screws to one side,take off an old gasket and put the new matching one in its place,then put those screws back in...you can do it..its as simple as that! Just like changing a plug.If you can't manage that,maybe an old VW isn't for you. Made such a difference to the running of my bus...get stuck in,you can't break it! ;-)

Just done some shopping for a carb gasket kit and a couple of cans of carb cleaner, hopefully i'll be able to report some good news in a few days! cheers for everyones replys!

Worth taking a look at your carb first, as a very common reason for a carb leaking fuel is worn spindles. Putting a rebuild kit on it will not fix that.

You can get replacement bushes for the spindles if needed, I got mine from ebay. If it's the spindle itself you'll probably need to source them from an old carb

Just tried to ring laurie to get him to look at mine. Sounds like he isn't very well and is taking a break from doing them.

it depends on the carb,the bushes on the 30pict are not changeable.

If the spindle is worn the bushes will not really help this problem. That is what happened with mine anyway.

Ah fair enough, is it obvious to tell if the spindles are worn? what do i need to look for? cheers!
