Hi All

Seem to have a few things that have just stopped working recently.....although it seems to be part of the fun of ownership believe!

Wipers suddenly stopped the other day. Worked one minute when I pulled the switch....10 mins later nothing. All fuses seem fine..... What would people suggest I check next / is there a common failure area?

Cheers
Craig

Check the earth point and the condition of the power and earth cables - including the crimped section. The wiper motor draws a fair amount of current, so any bad continuity can stop it kicking into life altogether. It's also worthwhile removing the whole assembly and checking that the mechanism is all freely moving.

You don't need to take it all out to check the spindles are free. They may be seized. Take off the wiper arms and cap under them. Carefully remove the tiny circlip on the spindle and don't lose it. try pushing the spindles inwards - if they are seized they won't move so add some penetrating oil and tap them down. Don't worry about them going right in - you can push them back from under the dash. Work them in and out a few times until they free up then spray white grease on them from under the dash, using a thin wand that usually comes with the grease. Replace circlip and hopefully everything will work. If not check wiring and fuse. The motors are pretty tough and don't usually burn out. In the unlikely event that yours has died I can supply you with a working motor.

Thanks guys....away with work this wk but will try your suggestions and report back. Cheers!

i agree with BJ towards the end of a seven hour run back from pembrokeshire in the pouring rain mine started to slow down and sqeak 30 miles from home (still raining and getting dark) they just stopped. when we looked at them next day all electrics where good. grease in the spindle had dried with age and heat of use and just stuck fast. real bugger but penetrant and new grease all good.
