Had real fun and games with the rear brakes!!!!!

Still not completely sure what caused it

So bought this lot

16684021_778682902281819_8574799722451751897_n1.jpg

Gen VW backing plates
Gen VW internal parts
Trasporterhaus Spring plates
Trasporterhaus redrilled drums to porche
Trasporterhaus modified hibs for porsche and narrowed
Trasporterhaus shortened shafts
New shoes
Gen Hub carriers with all new bearings and gen VW spacer tubes

First problem - shaft wouldnt slide into the hub!
even after cleaning off the coating

Had to have it pressed in

Next job, got it all fitted up and bump stops cut down

bolted wheel up tight and wheels stuck solid ad drums sitting too far in and rubbing
So had to have the outer lip of the drum machined down to match the inner lip but still bad so had both inner and outer machined down some more!

Was better - But then found it was now the inner lip of the backing plate it was catching on - Shiny metal you see was painted black!

So then had to have more machining done on the inner area between the to lips!
nightmare - now finally have brakes that down rub

Everyone i spoke to including transporthaus C&C and other peeps in the know just couldn't would out why I had so much trouble..

few little extra jobs this weekend

So decided to go a different route with my rear brakes

Porsche fitment rear discs

So heres the start - Caliper brackets

Nice refurbed calipers

What this space as things progress :) :D

Nice work on the rear disks!!
So wish there was a decent wide 5 disk kit out there

I cheated - calipers came like that :)

I am looking into doing a 5x112 kit along with my 5x130 kit, once I work out all the bits I need for both.

Wide 5 is harder due to the size of the disc needed for the stud pattern - I may have a look and see how far out the discs would be

been such a long time since i updated the thread!

So brakes are now all fitted and stop like you wouldn't believe!

Nice seats, and the new door cards will make it look good in the cab 8)

Why did you want rear disks particularly, were the drum brakes no good?

When i bought the bus I had a scooby conversion sat to go in it

But as i got into the van it was 'SO' original i didnt want to fit it

Being a 68 the drums are a pain and wanted to fit porsche wheels as I had 944 front end anyway and didn't want to fit adapters as made it too wide at the back

Knowing what I know now I reckon i could build my rear disc kit for less than £500 which i think is good to give you rear disc setup
