Just scared the sh*t out of myself. Had a glance under the front of my bus and noticed the split pin for the pin connecting the brake pedal to brake push rod was missing. And I drove all the way back from Brighton last night....
I find it hard to believe a new split pin could fall out, I mean ,how could it? That must mean that when I fitted the new beam a few months ago I didn't fit one. (put new gaiters on brake & clutch pedals while the jack was out)
I checked everything at the time but obviously not thoroughly enough. I checked again after a test run.
I have driven something like a thousand miles since fitting the beam, mostly with my 9yr old boy in the passenger seat.
God knows how many vehicles I have worked on over the years and still it's possible to make fundamental errors.
So when you do any work on your bus, check, check and check again.....I have been VERY lucky.

my bus failed the mot on the exsact same thing

i couldent think of antthing worse that heading for a big old oak tree 60mph

You know where I'm coming from with the scare factor. I have had brakes fail before, once on my '69 Fastback which at the time had an AUTO gearbox. That was very scary. (It wasn't long before a manual went in, shed loads of work to do though)
