I’m not confident in the bar design to hold up the pillow section of the bed on the early bay. I tried bending up a bar to use the two holes that already were in the roof. There’s just not enough space for a decent support

I was trying to figure a way to support it from the bottom, but have access from sitting up on the bed platform. So I rooted around my metal and plastic scraps for ideas, and came up with this

5.5” piece of 1/4” x 2x2 aluminum angle with 6mm threaded hole. 6mm x30mm turn bolt, 1/4” UHMW sheet for a spacer, and a 6 mm lock nut and washer

When it’s turned out it rests on the roof ribs, so good support there.

When turned in , flush with the roof edge, and the knob lets me know which way the support bar is pointing from up top

Nicely done!

I've followed the stock design (from looking at pictures), and thus far, has been absolutely on point. Five camps, no head-rest collapses.

I did think of selling mine when I saw this post but although its sat in the garage and probably will be never installed in the van again as the kids have long since outgrown it, the front brackets are still bolted to the roof of the van and unless I take the headliner out they are staying put!
