    Fuel tank felt?

Hi, I bought sound deadening felt from woollies : http://www.woolies-trim.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; However, for the couple of strips required I would suggest don't bother and go the screwfix solution! If you are passing Newmarket then I'm happy to let you have what...

    Burning spots.....

Ok.... I'm feeling rather humbled by the replies that have been offered, especially as Dave.P made me start to think..... and what I now believe the problem has been is going to make me look a little stupid!! I've been restoring the van for the last 6 years, been a bit of a hobby as not had the...

    Burning spots.....

Thankyou for all your replies on this. Had a good look around from underneath today with the van up on axle stands, but haven't found anything amiss.... The area in question from underneath looks to be roughly in line with the output from the right flexible tube from the heat exchanger, just...

    Burning spots.....

... and who said that the heating in these vans doesn't work!! It's a bit worrying though that the metal can get this hot, It's got me a little worried especially as it was my 7 year old that smelled the burning.... I guess the answer is to simply not use the space underneath the seat, but with...

    Burning spots.....

Hi, I've just got my van back on the road.... its a 1971 crossover, with standard 1600, everything original including heat exchangers and all connected and working.... Went out in it yesterday and my 7 year old son said he could smell burning.... stopped, checked everything, and later found...

    Windscreen wipers....

Thankyou.... will get one on order whilst they are on sale... Having a poke underneath the dash today it doesn't seem that obvious how it all comes out, I'm guessing it's a case of motor and mechanical asembly all together, then change the spindle bit? May be that I see how long my 'bodge'...

    Windscreen wipers....

1972 / 73 crossover bay.... Hi.... getting the van ready for the MOT on Monday, and thought I'd adjust the settled position of the wipers.... thought that this should have been a simple job of whipping off the domed nut of the wipers, and moving it around a spline and then re tighten...

    Devon Roof Bellows Help

That's a Devon roof for sure.... and from having replaced the bellows, then the ones from the 'camper shop' are of excellent quality.... don't waste time and ultimately money by buying elsewhere for a few quid cheaper!! I'm not sure that the old bellows you are looking to replace are original...

    Engine noise....

Hi.... I'm feeling a camplete failure with regards my van.... I have spent so much time and money (and love.... sweat.... no tears yet!!), but am close to admitting defeat!!!! Last year, I had a knocking sound when cold, which I'm fairly sure was right cylinder head being loose. I took the...

    Fan belt slipping?

I have eventually found 20mins to spend on the problem, and thought I'd update those who offered advise, as the actual problem was a little different.... Basically the wudruff key had sheared. Whilst under normal load, the belt was still working fine on the pulley, but on deceleration the...

    Fan belt slipping?

Having purchased what I'm hoping is the correct belt, I think I've found at least part of the problem..... there was a crack in the back half of the pulley, which when I jabbed with a screwdriver broke off: Next couple of questions: 1. Should this just pull off.... it wont, does it need a...

    Curtain rail !!

My advise is to ignore the bends, just go for where you you want it to end up, and forget how it has to bend to get there!! I started at the sides, do the first foot, then just move forward another 18inch or so to a point where the bend is doable..... I ended up buying twice, as got annoyed...

    Fan belt slipping?

Thank you.... I think I may have the wrong belt.... I've just been on VW Heritage, and it shows a solid belt of 9.5 x 905.... Whilst the one I've got is 10 x 905 and of ribbed design.... not sure if that will make the difference but I've ordered another belt, and I'll take it from there...

    Fan belt slipping?

How would I know if the noise is coming from the generator, would there be any other tell tail signs. The gerator wasn't replaced, just the original cleaned of 'crud' and re-used, as there wasn't any issue previously. I've measured the output from the regulator and it seems to be around 13.5v at...

    Fan belt slipping?

I've just rebuilt the engine (1600 in a 1972 Devon) and put the engine back in. It started good and overall sounds fine..... the van is still on Ramps, so not road tested, just stationary with the engine running. When accelerating the engine, the fan belt sounds fine, but when I take my foot...

    Cables to heat exchanger

I think I should really be cutting the belly pans off..... when I knock on them I can hear rust rattling, but ignorance is bliss and if I find another excuse to keep the van off the road my wife will go spare!! I've spent too much time today on the problem.... ended up using 8mm copper pipe...

    Cables to heat exchanger

Hi.... working on my 1971 VW Devon, and trying to replace the cable from lever in the cab to heat exchanger due to corrosion on the bit that attaches to the heat exchanger. .... I've undone the cable at both ends.... its been undone from front, and now just within the tube, but it won't budge...

    Hand brake handle removal ?

I wedged a length of 4x2 timber between the floor and the handle (not obstructing the roll pin!) then assuming you've got a drift or something of the right diameter then you've got something solid to hit against.... worked for me....

    Endfloat..... help!!

Dust rat, Thank you.... and you were right about the circlip, spent longer on that than getting the bearing off, which I did as you advised, a blast from the gas cartridge gun, and using just three legged pullers (with a bit of angle grinding on the legs to get a seat!!).... wouldn't say they...
