    Sump full of fuel (again)

Took carbs apart, checked needle valves are seating ok by holding the top of the carb upside down and blowing into the fuel inlet, both carbs sealing properly. Immersed both floats into water, no bubbles. However I did notice that one seemed heavier than the other. Weighed them, one 17.5gm the...

    Sump full of fuel (again)

Fuel pressure with the Huco 133010 is 2.1 psi which is perfect for ICT's. Also the pump is self priming and should stop when no fuel is needed. I have drained my sump, waiting for a cut off solenoid to arrive, but will check carb floats and needle valves again.

    Sump full of fuel (again)

Had this problem once before. 1776 twin 34 ICT's, Huco electric fuel pump. I stripped the carbs and replaced both needle jets 6 months ago, floats tested ok and set to 8mm gap. I'm guessing that the engine is creating a vacuum once stopped and causing a syphon effect, but I also would expect...

    Sump full of fuel (again)

Went to start the bus yesterday, wouldn't turn over and got a strong whiff of petrol. Checked the battery 12.6v. Noticed petrol dripping from underneath. Guess what yep, another sump full of petrol and a hydraulic lock. Ordered a fuel cut off solenoid to stop this nonsense.

    Fuel in crank case.

Had the same problem, turned out to be a broken needle valve.

Fuel Hose and the dreaded E10

Checking my bus over today for a possible trip out this week. The hose from my Huco electric fuel pump to a tee piece is 7.6mm R9 hose and from the tee piece to my twin ICT's is 5.5mm 100% Bio Fuel Hose from advanced fluid solutions. Both were fitted about 2 years ago. I regularly check them...

    Split Charge draining battery

Fitted a new VSR (same as matty74) yesterday. Took the van for a spin, will test today to see what the voltages are.

    Split Charge draining battery

Recharged battery. I had a relay lying around so have wired it to break the Durite earth cable when the engine is off as per PGtips post. Will see what the starter battery is like tomorrow.

    Split Charge draining battery

Went to run my van yesterday and the starter battery is flat as a pancake. So my hack didn't work for long, looks like my Durite is shagged. Matty74, where did you get your relay from?

    Split Charge draining battery

Earlybay1 I installed the system (I was an electronics engineer in a former life) so I am pretty sure it was installed correctly. Alternator pumps out 14.1v when the engine is running The lb is 105AH and runs internal lights, pump for water tap, Propex (when on) radio (which has a removeable...

    Split Charge draining battery

Seems like nobody on here has suffered this issue with a Durite split charge relay. Between the showers today, cleaned up the earth connections to both batteries. Noticed that after running the engine the red light on the relay remained on after engine is shut down. Did some research and...

    Headlamp wiring

Recently had the headlights aligned but still not driven the bus after dark to see the results.

    Split Charge draining battery

My bus has a 53AH starter battery and a 105AH leisure battery, and a split charge system. For some time the bus starter battery goes flat if left for a week without starting. I initially thought it was a battery problem so replaced with a new one. However, problem remained. Recently I had my...

    1 hole head light rim

I replaced my headlights with MkI Golf Crystal Clear headlights. I retained the 3 hole rims but put some stainless steel bolts (shortened) with lock nuts to fill the other holes, looks really good. Don't know about drainage holes.

    Rear Torsion Bar End Caps

Whilst checking the underside of my van the other day I noticed that both rear torsion bar end caps had rusted through. Took one off and tried to get the inner cup out to no avail. Searching the interweb found some on Autocraft Engineering for just over a tenner each. Thought they looked a...

    Smallest aspect ratio 4 x 4 tyres on R15s

Not specifically 4x4 but I am running 185/70/R15 light truck tyres on my bay. I don't think the type of tyre would make much difference in cross winds, but I was having this problem and getting the tracking sorted and using the correct tyre pressure made a world of difference in high winds.
