    High-roofs

After searching for several months this year for a working ice cream kombi, I found that several high-roof buses followed me home. ;) While searching for the ice cream van, I was offered a rusty 76 Brazilian baysplit hybrid with a high-roof conversion, which I bought only because it was so...

These stickers tell the story of some of the previous journeys made by the PO of my 70 westy around southern Africa:

    Red RHD westy

It has deluxe bumper trims, chrome nose emblem, deluxe front vent trim, and the deluxe clock. I don't know if it was supplied like that new or if those were added later. Although the son has passed on, the old man who bought the bus new is still alive. I'm hoping to meet him soon and that's one...

    Red RHD westy

I acquired this bus two weeks ago, on my 47th birthday. It's a one family owned bus that I bought from the widow of the son of the guy who bought it new in 1969. It's a SO67R Westy, in South Africa. I'm over the moon to have got this bus and it came to me, I wasn't even looking for another bus. 8)

    Red buses do indeed rule

My wife and I with our new Montana Red 1970 Westfalia. I'll start a dedicated thread on this bus when I have more time.

Not enough room in your camper????

All correct except for the split screen reference. There is one known split Jurgens, a 59 that was either a prototype or more likely a special order. The next Autovilla to see the light of day (and the first to be commercially available) was for the 74 model year. The one on ebay looks quite...

    Westy Trailer Help Please...........

Thanks. If I heard the seller correctly, it's a Trek-Bar trailer, made in King William's Town. The registration papers say it was first registered in 1981, and first lived in Grahamstown, which is close to KWT.

    Westy Trailer Help Please...........

Interesting. The trailer is 600km from me and it'll be a few months before I have it in my hands to measure anything.

    Westy Trailer Help Please...........

Thanks. Are you referring to the wheel, or the swing arm pivot? If they're nylon bushes they shouldn't be too difficult to fabricate?

    Westy Trailer Help Please...........

I just acquired a South African built trailer with the identical chassis to the Westfalia Essen, but with an aluminium body. Can someone explain to me what kind of bushing is in the pivots on the swing arms?

Early bay rear bumper end caps???

My 71 double cab has these protective end caps on the rear bumpers. They look like they're cut from the ends of another bumper. I've never seen these on another bus. Were these accessories or home made by a PO?

I did it again, 71 double cab

What's to do? LOL!!! 8) It has a few mechanical issues to attend to (new clutch, sort out reverse lock-out, replace CV boots, service & tune-up), but otherwise I'm leaving it as is. It's too nice to drive, never mind carry a load (still has its original bed slats). It will probably be garaged...

I did it again, 71 double cab

Hey Volks I just bought this super clean 1971 double cab with M509 (dust protected air intake), to match my M509 71 single cab, (http://forum.earlybay.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=27424). :D 8)

Bay Single cab joins the family

Sweet single you've found there! Definitely a 71 (no flare on the front fender), was probably first registered in 72. Port Shepstone = RUST. I hope she's not hiding any nastiness. I'll start keeping a lookout for a treasure chest hatch for you. Yesterday I took delivery of her sibling ...
