I am trying to fit the last window in my newly sprayed '69 Bay but the opening quarter light and 3/4 window don't seem to want to fit.

I have used new rubbers and all the other windows have been fine, any tips out there?

PM strongy hes a glass fitter but hes gonna tell you to use a big block of wood and a bit of welly.......

ive used a large rubber mallet in the past and slapped it in with my hand also. it does take quite a bit of force, so much so that you would think you could smash it.

I've seen a guy kick his windows out with both feet and someone outside catching them  so you can be sure the glass is pretty tough

make sure the little metal tabs on the inside leading (front) edge of the 1/4 window frame go over the lip of the window cutout on the inside - these little tabs can be seen when you pull the seal back a bit

I have one window that did not go in so well and I think that this may have been causing it

not easy to explain and no pics - sorry - hope it helps though

Hiya Matthew,

I'd advise that you get yourself an assistant and then the both of you have a go at it from the outside and the inside. The thing that makes getting these installed a tough job is that the rubber seal has to fit over the pinch weld and NOT come off the window frame at the same time. Getting that done takes a little experience and "feel".

Whatever.............be sure you soap up the rubber really well and make sure the area around the opening is slippery also.

Thanks for all the tips, with a fellow vee dubber, lots of soapy water, strong string and rubber lump hammer we managed to get it to fit in about 15 minutes.

A good job done but one I don't ever want to repeat!

Thanks

Matthew
