LHS front door lock with key in it will not pop the lock up....

We have to put the key and twist the key 5 / 6 times before the lock finally pops up. Locking the Bay is not a problem, it seems there's not enough twist / strength in the key. I believe that spring has probably had its day??

Is it worth while trying take the old barrel out and fixing, can you get new springs / barrels parts etc??? If so does anybody selling or can point me in the right direction???

or

Just buy new locks and handles from Wolfsberg?

Any help much appreciated

I had a similar problem and it was due to the cam bit on the end of the lock has broke. Worth taking the handle off just to check. When it was unscrewed from the end of the lock barrel it was in two pieces

Can anybody point me in the direction of checking if these parts (door lock mech) are suitable for a 68

Thanks

I've just done this last week (on a '68, with push button handles). VW Heritage sell the spring (about £5) - if you remove the door handle which is not too difficult you will see the small spring (or not) through the hole from the outside. If you can't see it or its broken - that's the problem. My symptom was it worked one time in 20 with the key - the button worked perfectly.

Definitely worth a try before buying new handles as you've got to pull the old one out anyway.....
