Just picked an original 68 LHD bay. Interior is mustard vinyl with golden ply in a good condition.

I'm looking for help regarding restoring ripped vinyl or buying replacement vinyl if possible?

Secondly did VW do a cooker for the 68 interior at present from the sliding door we have the sink unit and cold cupboard with fold out table, followed by stool and then the small padded seat behind the drivers seat. Iw ant to keep the original interior but some how put the cooking unit in if possible for that year (or was that added in the 70's)

Looking around on the internet there are repo units today that incorporate fold down cookers but originality rules here.

If anybody can help or point us in the right direction it would be much appreciated.

sounds like a westy campmobile -

a place that does westy coloured vinyl http://www.delilahsvwcamperfurnishings.com/Delilahs_VW_Camper_Furnishings/Delilahs_VW.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

and no VW did not do a cooker til llater verions of the westy - we have a 68 and always cook outside - nothing worse than cooking your tea and then having to sleep in the fumes later...

i think a 74 cooker is what you're looking for..... although wrong colour and wrong year! if you found one you could change the laminate.

i found all the hinges i needed then had one made by Rob at Dubtricks - you'd never know it wasnt original.

I've heard of people re-laminating the wood if that helps.

Someone had used this company. Bottom right of the swatch is cinnamon cherry which looks close to the Westy wood, but you could ring them and get the exact wood.

I've dropped them an email to see if they are still doing it.

Or an American site, but they do a reproduction mustard vinyl:

Thanks for the heads up, I thought I was too early for cooker. Does anybody have images of a swing out cooker i an early bay? I presume that would mean moving the fold out table on the side of sink unit.

Plus has anybody converted the cupboard underneath the sink and found a suitable fridge that fits ideally an intergrated unit so the original door can be kept or do I have better odds winning the lotto tonight :lol:

Hi,

I have a compressor fridge hidden behine my westy cooler door, looks stock from the outside. I have also replaced the sink with a 2 burner glass/gas hob, with a 3kw wok burner - for when you need a cup of tea quickly! :lol:

I have some lovely chrome heavy duty smooth action roller hinges, ready to fit, to swing the entire sink unit/fridge out, the wiring is extended, and the gas pipe flexible, just not got around to doing that yet.

Take a look at my thread here for my fridge and hob install
