I've tried to search but couldn't find much info... Anyone done this?

Thing is that my -72 SC was originally fitted with a 1600 type-1 and I'm now going to install a -79 Type-4 into it. The original gearbox is a 002 301 103 B.

Now, I'm wondering if my engine fits this gearbox straight on or with minor modifications?

Hmmm, if my brain is working correctly tonite, the 6 rib box has a longer drive shaft and a deeper bell plus a longer starter drive...

I believe you can fit the Suit case lump to the 3 and 5 rib boxes without any issues, fitting the 1600 to a 6 rib is a little more involved.

AFAIK you need a flywheel from an early type 4 engine, and you're good to go. I assume you can use both the 1.7 and the 1.8 flywheels (and clutch assembly, of course)...

I started working on the bellhouse fitment. Unbolted the bellhousing from the pre-71 002 transmission and tested it with the 228mm flywheel. It was a bit close so I have to grind off some to make it fit.

Biggest problem seems to be that the opening in the "sun" on the pressureplate is just about 1mm smaller that the outer diameter of the release bearing...

Still need to check if I need to use the WBX startermotor or not.
