Just fitted an alternator conversion to the bus. started fine light went out. took it for a run round town and ran fine. coming into my road the engine started revving up on its own :?

I had to remove the left carb and manifold (twin webers) for the alternator to giggle the fan housing about. I'm guessing an air leak somewhere, when you rev it the motor don't pick up straight away, was fine first thing when i backed it down the drive and been fine all week. removed the air filter then took carb and manifold off as 1. I'm thinking the gasket bewteen the manifold and head is'nt sealing properly, would anyone have any other suggestions???

Also the fan belt keeps turning up side down after engines been running for abit

Cheers dudes :D

needs solving, going camping sunday :(

I don't have a vw fan belt on it because of an odd sized bottom pulley, vw belts are to big or small.

if the belt keeps twisting it's probably because the pulleys aren't in line...

Just out of interest, did you fit all of the kit that cam with it? I swapped over recently and was tempted to re-use the og plates that the alternator/fan connect to as they looked the same and were thicker metal, but i did notice there seemed to be a different offset (as someone said the pulleys didn't line up), so fitted the poorer quality ones that came with the kit. Seemed to me the old stand was the same dimension as the one in the kit too (why need/pay for a new one?).

Just a thought..

I used it all apart from the stand and pulley, got another chrome pulley and stand to match the tinware, I've fixed the both problems now though. Gasket bewteen carb and manifold had split again :( and tryed a new belt and it stopped doing it, did 104 milesto a camp site and it's been fine :D

Cheers anyway people 8)
