Can anyone tell me if the 68 bay ever had a 1500 single port engine. Reason for asking is I saw one at busiest this year with a 1500 in, owner no where to be seen. Also my bus came from states with 1500 in,maybe they changed it. Just wondered if there was ever a 1500 supplied with the 68 bus.

Thanks

No, 1600 Single Port for a 68-70.

The Samba makes reference to a 1500 low octane 1500 engine being fitted in '69, so its possible I guess?

Some will surely be engine swapped vans though.

Be interesting to see what the M Code plate says on the ones fitted with 1500 as the reference guides dont list any 1500's fitted to bays at all, there are 3 engines available in 68 but they are all listed as 1600 but with 3 different outputs 50 bhp as standard, 44 bhp (M Code M240) and 47 bhp (M Code M157)

Very interesting topic this. I have also asked on the samba and it could be something to do with emissions as said. I can't seem to find a positive answer that all agree on. Would like to get a positive VW answer.

Thanks for everyone's input though.
