69 Westy Petrol Flap

I have a 69 westy and the spring is off the petrol flap, I've tried to put it back but it doesn't make it open and close properly, any tips

take the flap off the van with the 2 screws, then put the spring on the flap while off the van then screw it back on the van. just did this a couple days ago and it was a lot easier taking the flap off to do it.

Tried that yesterday but it didn't spring properly, still flapped about
