So here it goes... It starts out I bought the van with the intention of giving it a quick tidy up and a cheap engine and interior and being on the road in a couple of months.

This is where it gets a little out of hand... started out stripping the floor then decided to strip the rest of the interior back to bare metal

Then maybe the outside too!

Found the front wasn't in a good way

I have done quite a bit more work to it, but haven't got many recent pics. Got a bit disheartened when I bought a recon engine which blew up after less than 80 miles!!!
Have now bought a brand new 1641 from VWHeritage, hoping not to have the same problem. Hopefully this will make me want to finish it as I'm now more than 2 years down the line and have never actually driven the thing myself!!

Great job, know that feeling with the engine myself. Just finishing ours off now it's been worth it tho :D

Shiny new engine arrived from VW Heritage last week. Well impressed with delivery. Ordered Monday lunch, arrived Tuesday. Made a start on Saturday dizzy on, fuel pump on, clutch on, alternator stand and front pulley on. It's been so long since I pulled the last one apart, can't remember what order to put everything else on in.
Also a little nervous about starting it for the first time after reading that I have to run it straight up to 15-1800 rpm for 25-30 mins to break in the cam!
Anyone offering to turn the key?!!!

Haha Chicken

(but don't ask me, I ain't doing it ................ )

Scary moment over! Ran it up yesterday apart from the timing being a little out and carbs being in need of setting up, all went well. It's back in the van, I'm going to set the valve clearances, change the oil, fit the rear bumper and put some petrol in it today, then I should be able to drive it home for the first time in over 2 years! :D
Next thing is does anyone know where in or around Nottinghamshire I can get it tuned up or how much I'm looking at? I've heard of torque tune near ollerton. Might try them.

New engine in and running. Not very well, but running none the less. :)

Finally drove it home. Via the pub obviously! :D

old on, i got an idea.....classic

Nice looking bus, and with badge :)

Nice looking bus, like the paint job.

With badge looks better IMO.

Definitely worth getting those carbs checked for jetting and set up correctly. :)

I will be getting the engine set up, looking at taking it to someone in Nottinghamshire to do it properly. I was just determined i was going to get it thrown in and running well enough to get me home.
It's been there so long now, there was no way I was going to get that close and not drive it! :D
