As a new bay owner and being a girl with little construction experience, I will be attempting to remove and replace the flooring in my Westy. It currently has carpeting with a ply wood base, then wood parquet tiles.
I would like to replace it with similar or some type of pre finished wood.

I am asking for all experts (and non experts) to respond with your best advice on what materials I should use and in what order!

Thank you!

Cindi

Just looking through your thread, it was very helpful. Did you use two different sized under boards (6-3 mm) because there isn't one 9 mm? I was thinking of going with a marine ply and some type of sound proof material, like carpeting or 1/4 insullation. That is what is in there now, but would like to find something that wicks moisture.

I would love to see the results of your black and white chequered floor. Very cool!

Ps pics are coming...

Cheers :D , getting there ssssllooooooooooooooooowly!!!!
Which bolt you on about??
I've undone a quite a few now :?

From my lousy memory of boarding mine there is a step in the floor level so you need to build it in two layers to get it flat right across, hence the 3&6mm ply :?
Could be wrong :msn4:

Because the Westy is a bus conversion not a van conversion it has the mounts on the floor for he seats these are 6mm high, so I did it in the two 6mm to level 3mm to put on the top to put the covering on, it's how Westfalia did it

Just realised I don't have pics of the floor finished
I know! :p I need to get some before and afters up. Bought Dorothy in Kansas drove her all the way back to California on three cylinders (got married in Vegas on the way!) and my husband and I have working on her ever since!
We are quite proud of our new addition.

The floor should be made up of 2 layers, one of 6mm and one of 9mm, 3mm is too thin to be using in the floor of the bus it will just flex.

Lol! I was talking about the long bolt in front wheel-well. Several people commented on it, was curious to know what it was connected to?

Blooming eck!!!

That were a while ago!!

I think it held the spiny westy seat in!!!!

3mm flex ? I replaced like or like copying what came out 6mm and 3mm mine don't flex but it is held down by the bed and buddy seat

Well I was basing it on that all the original westy floors I've removed have been 15mm in total which is the approx height of the brackets that hold the buddy seat in, and I've always used a layer of 9mm and a layer of 6mm.
