Another dumb westy question

This time on the slider. Is the correct position of the internal handle on the sliding door pointing down wards?

If so is it just me or is it incredibly difficult to open from the inside, squeezing your hand alongside the sink unit the pushing the handle forward whilst trying to pull the door towards you ?
