My PC has recently depeloped a fault.Worse when it's first switched on and gets a bit better when it's been on for a while.
The graphics on the whole screen go hazy, blury as you scroll down or across the page then I have to hit refresh to see the screen clearly again, but the moment I scroll it blurs again.Randomly the PC stops responding altogether, then if you do anything like click the mouse button, then screen goes black for a second and then it refreshes.
I was thinking maybe it's the graphics card it's a good few years old now - Geforce 5700 ultra. The rest of it is fairly old , an MSI N force 2 motherboard an Athlon 2800 processor which was new about 2 years ago_Or could it be the RAM? It's also quite old 2 x 256mb of samsung fast RAM?

Would be good if I can get an expert opinion before I start replacing bits randomly, cheers.

most likely the RAM on the graphics card is fried. have you got spares you can swap out piece at a time and see which bit is faulty?. is the inside of the case really dusty?

it could be a number of things but you need to eliminate one at a time but i would start with your graphics card and reinstall the latest driver for it first, then borrow a mates card etc.

Cheers ,I did try hoovering out all the fluff, didn't help.So I think I will follow your next step is to swap the graphics card like you said and install the latest drivers thankyou.

your graphics will pixelate when it gets too hot, if youve ever overclocked you'll know what this looks like

i have a water cooled AMD 3ghz clocked to 4.4ghz, which runs nice and cool all day.
