In a bit of a dilema. The pop top needs doing for the resto, but what paint? I know there is 'fibre glass' paint available(such as International & rustoleum),but they all seem to be specific for the needs of Marine application & need re doing after 5 years or so.

The pop top currently has 2k on it,done about 20 years ago which has lasted well.just wondering if anyone has painted the fibre glass pop top in the normal manner as body work with problems,i.e. cracking.

I've of thought the 2k is flexible enough so I'm inclinded to just have it painted along with the bus.Or does it need an additive to aid flex? What do you think - anyone got experience of this?

I'm having a local boatyard put a white gel coat over mine when i get round to it, they are even going to strengthen the inner lip edge as its brittle and broken. Boss says its guaranteed to last 10 years on their speedboats. I got a quote for £80 for a devon roof (just the lower skirt) the top section is covered with a black vinyl from campershop.

Painted my Danbury top with 2k a couple of years back -seems fine, not noticed any
cracks. But I'm not the concours perfectionist type.

Thanks chaps! been thinking,I'm going to prep it in the garden anyway, what do you think about a hand job? anyone recommend a brush paint with a nice flow & flexible gloss finish,or is it not worth the effort?

p.s. not Hammerite, that's like brushing tar on.

Transport polyurathane, spray or roller, brushes leave lines, fibre roller not foam as foam leaves bubbles.

or military paint with spray or a roller, needs refreshing evry few years if left matt, varnish is said to help prolong the finish but never tried it.
