Balljoint clips

Got to replace the rubbers on my balljoints and had a quick go today after starting to fit the Red 9 ez rider kit today and was struggling to fit the clips, should I be fitting the rubber on the balljoint with the clips already on the rubber or put the rubber on then fit the clips?
any tips would be appreciated

Fit the balljoint boots, throw the wire clips in the bin and use small cable ties to secure the boots..
